ABOUT US

Our Mission

Wild Child Seattle educates and inspires young children and their families to discover and connect with the urban wilderness of Seattle’s parks.

Connecting with Nature Together

Wild Child Seattle is a parent and child nature program based out of Seattle's Carkeek Park.  Join us for habitat exploration designed for young children aged 18 mo - 6 years and their adults.

We provide a structure for young children to learn about nature in a variety of ways: by exploring with age-appropriate tools, by walking to and within different habitats; by hearing stories and singing songs; and by engaging their creative brains with art projects. We explore using all 5 senses. (Yes, even taste!)

Our hope is that all children and their families will develop a love of being outside in nature together.  We'd like to help your family explore and connect with Seattle's urban wilderness.

Come learn and discover with us!

We start our day with a felt board activity, game or story, introducing our topic and habitat of the day, and by singing the welcome song as everyone gathers on the blanket.

We then head out on our hike, which is generally about a half mile and moves at the children's pace.  We'll visit one of 5 different habitats every week: forest, beach, wetland, creek and meadow.

Once we've reached our habitat destination, we explore the nature in that type of habitat.  We'll look for small creatures in the intertidal zone of the beach, spider webs in the forest, and water bugs in the pond.

A Day At Camp

Often we will bring "tools" to help us explore our habitats, such as nets at the pond and beach, or magnifying glasses at the meadow.

We will break for snack time on the blanket, read a story related to our habitat, and do an art project.  We end our day by hiking back and singing the goodbye song.

Schedule

10-10:15  Gather together and welcome activity.

10:15-10:50  Hike to our habitat of the day and explore!

10:50-11:10  Story, snackies and tea time, plus an art project

11:10-11:30  Hike back to our starting place and sing the goodbye song
